Reducing impact of exacerbated Poverty through Conservation & Sustainable use of Biodiversity and Dry land (poison free eco-friendly) agricultural farming in Haldi GP of Muribahal Block, bolangir District, Orissa.
Objective:
? Conservation & Sustainable use of bio-diversity;
? Introducing Dry land Poison free eco-friendly sustainable agricultural practices among the marginal and small farmers.
? To reduce land degradation, bio-diversity losses & pressure on Forest through community plantation of barren lands/waste lands for food, medicine, fodder, fuel and housing.
? To create an area specific advocacy model; this will be a source of replication for other villages.


Output:
? Capacity building of project coordinating staff, community level trained volunteers
? Increased awareness among the target groups on importance of biodiversity management, ill-effects of water-land and climate change
? Community level resource group would be developed of 52 index farmers in 13 villages
? 13 demonstration sites of biodiversity management and dry land eco-friendly farming would be developed
? Trained women groups preparing herbal medicine from locally available herbs.
? As per the need development of various training module as per the need
? Ensuring PRI involvement
? Developing linkages with various line govt. depts. and banks, etc

Activity:
? Capacity building of staffs and community level volunteers (CLV) on biodiversity management, poverty and related issues of land, water, air, agriculture, etc.
? Capacity building of communities on techniques of preparation and use of organic manure, dry land farming, village level micro-planning, micro water harvesting system, vermin compost, etc.
? Strengthening of institution building mechanism at village level by formation biodiversity committee, community level resource group consisting of index farmers, formation and strengthen women SHGs, etc.
? Development of community nursery and community plantation
? Creation of micro-water catchments area on barren land
? 52 demo units would be developed for dry land and eco-friendly agriculture
? Development of organic manure production i.e. cow-urine harvesting sheds, vermi compost in all the project villages
? Development of indigenous seed bank in 13 project villages
? In selected 2 villages, poor widow and deserted women would be trained on use of herbs and preparation of medicines out of that.
? Development of linkages with PRI, various govt. line depts., etc.
? Dissemination of information through workshop, fair, print and electronic media to a wider network
