Managing Human Elephant conflicts in Hambagamuwa by Mihimaw Science Foundation
Rathmbalagam village is situated bordering Uva Walawe national park. Elephants are constantly invading this area creating panic to villages and causing damage to crops, several deaths also been reported during the recent past. This project proposes to put up an electric fence dividing the village and the elephant area. It also proposes to gather information about traditional techniques used and to practice them as a pilot project. Improvement of agriculture through traditional methods, establishment of indigenous seed bank, and developing Rathabalagama village as an organic farming model village.

A revolving fund will be activated under this project, for the public and for those who are facing to the Human?Elephant conflict. This will be introduced to the other areas in future. Additionally it will help to manage the agricultural cultivations and increase the income. Expenses must be done under the recommendation of the committee.
