Building a Local network of living trees platform for the conservation of land resources in Jabal Moussa
Building a local network of living trees platforms for the conservation of land resources in Jabal Moussa Region. The Project aims to mitigate the effects of land degradation through the establishment of local platforms aiming at the conservation of Mediterranean landscapes and the development of local nurseries system specialized in the propagation and maintenance of native Eastern Mediterranean plant species.
The objective fits other thematic GEF-SGP areas such as the conservation of biological diversity and the limitation of climate change effects and reforestation.
The project complement with APJM goal on leveraging socio-economic aspects of local communities and villagers. The project is linked with a grant to be given by the ROSS programme (Italian Cooperation) which objectives are the following: [1] To promote the biological, cultural and historical values of the area and to conserve it from uncontrolled human activities, [2] To establish the basic infrastructure and institutional system to promote eco-tourism and recreational activities and to establish the pillars for long-term implementation of an integrated eco-tourism strategy.
The ROSS funded project will be supporting indirectly and directly the aims of this project while [1] performing the socio-economic assessment; [2] developing a communication strategy on the biological, cultural and historical value of the region; [3] rehabilitating 'The Houses' and management of the trails. The Houses will be used as the principal platform for organizing and holding the awareness and capacity development on native species found in the region, their values and the procedures for their propagation and maintenance
