Community-based Restoration and Management of the Mangroves of Woburn Bay. MPA.
This project focuses on the restoration of a mangrove ecosystem in south-eastern Grenada within the Woburn Marine Protected Area. The goal of the project is to engage the community in an ecological restoration programme while developing alternative livelihood activities. The objectives will include the establishment of a research and monitoring system; increasing community awareness to the significance of the mangrove; implementation of a restoration and stewardship programme; and replanting the denuded areas.
Is is expected that there will be measurable changes in the state of the mangrove system by the end of the project and that the nearby commuity will be able to offer and grow a viable heritage tourism programme.
