A ground-up approach to Water Ressource Management in Carriacou and Petit Martinique
This project was developed through an intensive public participation programme in Carriacou and Petit Martinique. The project will establish a framework for citizen participation in decision making. The goal is to: "develop a ground-up strategy for water resource management that further enhances the movement toward Geotourism and local governance in Carriacou and Petit Martinique".
The objectives are to: (i) use a ground-up strategy for identification, assessment and mapping of water resources and issues in each zone; (ii) develop management recommendations for inclusion into the Government of Grenada's water policy; (iii) priortize and implement one water recource improvement project in each zone; and (iv) document the entire process as part of a Knowledge Development process".
Project activites will include several zonal meetings; training sessions; Watershed evaluations; reforestation of 2 acres of watershed in each zone; water improvement project; development of managment recommendations; and project documentation.
This project has a unique opportunity to engage inhabitants of a small island in a development process which is empowering and delivers results.
