This project will promote sustainable and organic agriculture practices by developing a community composting programme within a World Heritage Site. The goal of the proeject is to: "develop a viable communtiy composting industry which will reduce the deterioration in soil quality and the pollution of water bodies".
The specific objectives are to: (i) establish an efficient system for the colleciton of kitchen waste from area hotels and schools; (ii) construct 24 wind-row aerated compost pits between the grantee's organic farm, schools and area farms; (iii) train 30 farmers in aerated wind-row composting techniques; and (iv) to undertake an education programme in nine schools in the project area.
