FONUATANU TREE PLANTING
Fonuatanu is located on the lowest part land structure in Lapaha and like its neighboring village face the problem of soil erosion caused by rising of sea level. In cases of strong wind, sea can damaged the landscape as far as 100 meter inland.
The main problem is the soil erosion and also the loss of livelihood for the people of Lapaha. Some families? original land has been eroding off and is now a smaller piece due to erosion. The coast is getting closer and closer to the residential houses and at a faster pace now than ever. The impact of high sea level rise is apparent as low tide is not very far into the sea as one of the residents noted, as in 2002.
The project will address this issue by conducting awareness forums and capacity building workshops, within the Lapaha District and running reforestation of depleted mangrove areas
