Kerala is the largest rubber producing state in the country. The success story will act as the pilot project, shall endorse its replication to other blocks, districts and the state at large. The technology underlying is so cost-effective and efficient that it will infiltrate into the minds of even the policy makers.

The NGO intends to organize 40 awareness camps in the project area on enviroment preservation through construction of biogas plants based on rubber latex wastewater .Each camp will hold a capacity of 50-60 participants from the project area.

The NGO works through its grass root level units of Self Help Groups. The SHG comprises of small and marginal farmers known as Gramodayas. In each of the gramodayas Enviromental Preservation Committee (EPC) is formed. Each gramodayas and its EPC will be instrumental in constructing 50 Biogas plants.

The effluent flowing out from the process of beating sheets very foul-smelling and the health of people living in the area was jeopardized in such situation. Treatment of wastewater helped improve health and economy by generation of domestic fuel. Conduct awareness campaigns in the project area focusing on environment conservation practices and use of renewable energy Construct 150 biogas plants based on rubber latex wastewater using a more community led micro planning approach Ensure people?s participation in the proposed project taking and encouraging decisions, roles sharing and also cost sharing. Strengthen the level of awareness among the people that this is a natural process and also creating local ?grass root engineers? to take care of the maintenance and upkeep of the plants ? Facilitate the formation of the local level institutions as ?environment preservation committee? in gramodyas

The poor, small and marginal rubber farmers living in remote, hilly terrian in the project area were the major beneficiaries

The project had created the local institutions to manage the on going effects. Sharing of costs in each plant by the communities as Rs 3000 approx and also getting links to the govt subsidy of Rs 2500 per plant led to a great costs sharing and which raised nearly Rs 225,000 (6000 USD.) Creating the local grass root engineers within the communities on payment basis is also linking a business model approach within the area, the NGO has now been approached to get nearly 2500 bio gas plants installed through a massive GOI project and the NGO is also seeking to link the capacity building through the partnerships, which is extremely necessary for the sustainability of the program.

With the production of biogas with rubber latex wastewater, the project also aims to become an income generation programme under climate change and have a significant impact on the national economy. 1m3 Biogas plant is equivalent to 0.468 kg of LPG per day. Per month, one LPG cylinder is replaced by this Biogas plants and hence the saving from this a month is the cost of one LPG cylinder which is nearly Rs 330/- , so for the family using Biogas Plants is geting a saving of Rs 3,960/- per annum other than the saving from other fossil fuels.
