Development of alternate fuel through available city waste (JANA DEEP i.e. White Coal) to ensure respectable livelihood for most deprived class of Latur city.
Goal
The goal of the project is to develop alternate fuel so as to reduce use of fuel wood through proper scientific disposal of waste so that to provide respectable livelihood to people who are deprived of basic needs.
Objective
The projects aims towards ? Self-employment generation for waste collectors through municipal waste. ? Development of alternate fuel through scientific disposal of municipal waste. ? Reduction in use of fuel wood for both domestic as well as Industry purpose. ? Solution on Employment, Energy, Economics, Environment problem through effective solid waste management.
Output
? Generate employment for about 600 waste collectors ? Establish biodegradable waste based briquette making plant (15 tons of briquettes will be produced per day which will fetch Rs. 48,000/- per day at a rate of Rs 3,200 /-per ton) ? Develop alternate fuel source for industrial applications ? Reduce disposal in solid waste at dumping site by 15 tonnes per day
Activities
Major activities of the project includes capacity building and awareness programme of community members and field workers (which includes actual waste collectors and briquette machine operators)

Notable Community Participation
The project proposal it self was developed with participation of waste pickers. The wastepickers will be directly involved in the management of plant as well as in other related activities. The studies on various waste items will be also done by wastepickers along with various experts. This it self will provide them a critical input of understanding potential of the various activities in future
Capacity - Building Component
i. Basic training in behavioral attitude for waste collectors to perform better in the process of waste collection & disposal. ii. Scientific and systematic training to evolve awareness and precautions while handling waste material. iii. Periodic evaluation of performance of workers in systematic disposal of waste to establish good work practices in the field workers. iv. R & D in waste disposal with the help of waste collectors so as to enhance their research orientation under guidance of expert institutes like UDCT, IIT etc & individual experts. v. Conducting scientific surveys, experiments, developing prototypes etc. with the help of waste collectors in Bio waste, Polymer waste, Glass & Metal waste etc. for various processes of disposal in scientific way with all necessary documentation & data, under the guidance of expert institutes like UDCT, IIT etc & individual experts. Entrepreneurship Development through waste material. vi. Training of group of waste collectors in briquette manufacturing on established units elsewhere. vii. Exposure visits to Waste Management projects run commercially in other parts of country and studying processes of waste disposal adopted there in e.g. The Ideas Company (NOIDA),Style Solutions (Manesar, Haryana),Gupta Group(Chennai), STEPS (Mumbai),SELCO (Hyderabad) etc. viii. Identifying similar products in market through systematic survey. ix. Training in handling actual sales activity for waste collectors. x. Systematic training in
Emphasis on Sustainable Livelihoods
The organization has developed a cooperative society of ragpickers and through the same solid waste management programme is build over the years in latur and surrounding cities. Same structure will be strengthen to take up professional and financially viable activities like proposed briquette plant. The project has high potential of sustainability as most of the direct investment in capital items will be through bank loan and government subsidy. Also the ragpickers cooperative will be involved in management of the plant making direct involvement of stakeholders in running the project. Women are in major numbers in The waste pickers community. They will be key stakeholders and involved in direct management.
Gender Focus
Wsate collectors community comprises of both men and women . the project lokks at both of them with equity and benefits would be passed to bothe of them.
Promoting Public Awareness of Global Environment
capacity building and awareness programmes are the main coponent of the project activities. project aims to create awareness on waste management and capcity buildoing of people would lead to development of solid fuel which would reduce deforestation and conserve fossil fuels as well as help in reduction of carbon dioxide emission
