Demonstration of biogas technology use in Syrdarya province as an alternative energy source for generating heat and electricity
The project builds on the preparatory work accomplished within planning project # UZB/SGP/OP4/Y2/RAF/2009/09. The GEF SGP has a strategy to demonstrate biogas technology in each of the provinces of the country. So that the farmers from each particular province would have a good and nearby located example of the technology where they would have an opportunity to learn everything possible on using this technology in their own farm or household.
This time, the project is demonstrating this technology of Syrdarya province. The project will demonstrate how a biogas can be effectively used on a regular farm. The farm is of a medium size as a typical example of a regular farm, with typical problems of electricity cuts and absence of fuel for heating.
The project will demonstrate how these problems can be overcome with the help of biogas technology. The availability of electricity and heat for the farm from biogas will eventually have a positive impact on the farm sustainability and well-being of many people, whose livelihood depends on the farm. The electricity produced using the biogas will supply a pump for pumping potable water for the nearby community.
The main project result will be the reduction of 155 tons of CO2 equivalent emissions just from the pilot farm annually.
