Mangrove rehabilitation project
The project aims to conserve, protect and regenerate mangroves found within the Nuimi National park which are heavily exploited by the local people. The project will involve community sensitization on the need to protect the mangroves and the regeneration of about 8 hectares of old mangrove lands.

Capacity - Building Component
Bird watching clubs will be established in 3 schools in the area to generate interest in this form of ecotourism which could form another source of livelihood for the communities. Training sessions of mangrove regeneration will be conducted as well.
Policy Influence
Mangroves are an important biodiversity resource for The Gambia contributing significantly to the Fisheries sub-sector. They are also important for coastal protection and storm control. mangroves are under tremendous pressure and their regeneration has been a concern to some sectors. The success of this project will influence government policy to take up mangrove restoration.
