Expansion of community participation in the management of forests and protected areas.
The aim of the project is to reverse the negative trends of forest degradation by introducing a number of measures in selected communities in the Lower River Region. These measures include community forest management, tree planting exercises within forest parks, capacity building and the enactment of bylaws to government the exploitation of natural resources.

Emphasis on Sustainable Livelihoods
By adopting sustainable resource exploitation strategies, the communities will be afforded with other livelihood options which would improve their status while maintaining the ecological integrity and functions of the resources.
Promoting Public Awareness of Global Environment
The need to protect the global environment will be highlighted during implementation. The benefits to be realsied from adopting sound forest ,management practices will be demonstrated in terms of services provide by forest in meeting individual and domestic neeeds as well as global environmental benefits.
