RMCJ – Região Moçambicana da Companhia de Jesus (Padres & Irmãos Jesuítas)
project that aims to contribute to climate change mitigation through household electrification of two rural villages of Nowa and Chimangila in Banga locality, of Tsangano district, Tete province, Mozambique; these are part of the poorest villages of the country and three illiterate old-women were selected for training at the Barefoot College in India for six months at the sponsor of this college on solar energy technology, electrification and management; on return to their villages these women will install solar electrification systems in one hundred households of the two villages; these villages have no means of electricity, and use of less environmental friendly sources of energy like candles, fossil fuels (paraffin, petrol and diesel), and fuelwoods will be reduced and/or phased out in benefit of the environment and humankind; the savannah and afromontane ecosystems of the region will ultimately be better preserved, as well as improved livelihoods for these remote communities.
