Incentives for the cultivation of rare autochthonous fruit trees
The diversity of landrace and heirloom fruit varieties has declined worldwide over the past century. Conservation efforts targeting orchards and focusing on unique genotypes is imperative to preserve both cultural heritage and biological diversity.
This project uses subsidizing scheme for the distribution of fruit tree saplings. The scheme used will be that of subsidizing of 50% of the regular price. Ten different fruit varieties will be include in this scheme. Some of them are olives, plums, pears, pomegranates, figs etc. There is a maximum number of trees that a single farmer can get as well as a tolerance from the number of trees per variety.
