Project has demonstrated economic feasibility of coupling these technologies in the context of small farms in Albania. Albania at the present is characterized by small agricultural farms. Irrigation is carried by electric pumps or diesel operated. There are high fuel costs and high costs for connecting to the electric grid. Frequently electric pumps get damaged due to voltage fluctuations. This is the context that has made PV technology economically feasible when compared to other options.
PV pumps were coupled with reservoirs that provided latter in the day water pressure by gravity.

Project explored the possibility for farmers to access special credit line made available by FEFAD bank for energy efficiency. A meeting was organized with the bank?s loan agents and the farmers discussing possible arrangements. One of the main constrains raised by farmers is the high interest rate the banks charge. One possibility will be that SGP might cover the interest whereas the farmer will pay the principal. This scheme up until now has not been tested.
