Protection & Promotion of Peacocks in Thar
Project objectives:

- To develop a breeding in captivity to increase number of peacocks in area
- To conduct research on peacock and publish research in local language as well as in English
- To sensitize stakeholders; community, elected representatives and District Govt to envies policy to protect available peacocks and raise awareness for ecology and its management

Activities to be carried out under project:
- Social mobilization will be cross cutting
- Develop one breeding in captivity model at Hirabad, near Umerkot
- Grown up peacocks will be shifted to nearby area for replicating the same model for promotion of breed
- Project will explore the technique of egg incubators
- Feed for available peacocks will be provided in green paces of communal land/shrines/graveyards and other bird friendly places at each village level
- Launching Awareness campaign in the area on peacocks and wildlife
- Research on peacock?s origin, benefits (medicinal benefits), habits and ways and means of promotions will be conducted
- Conference/seminar & media briefings will be organized to highlight the issues of ecosystem of Thar
- A committee of elected representatives will be formed to device policy for protect and promote natural resources
- A website will be developed specifically on peacock and information on Thar also will be provided
- Peacock is natural controlling mechanism of snakes, so by this project less snake bite cases will take place; pamphlets and wall posters with these type of facts will be published and fixed in all schools, colleges and public places to raise the awareness
- Publishing Awareness material in local language and distributing among the stakeholders/public
- Inauguration of the breeding center/form
