Green Honey Project

Honey culture in Paen Village has been practiced for long time till now. One of the group leaders has extensive experience of honey culture in Australia for over ten years. Community have good knowledge and skill in honey culture, they make the bee keeping cases ourselves and they are also able to process honey in compliance with international practice standard.

The project ultimately aims to Conservation and Extension Indigenous Honey Bee and low cost honey collection technology while promoting the concervation of the plants that provide sweet for honey bee

Project Characteristics and Results

Inovative Financial Mechanisms

Expenditure of the project was pay follow the plan some activities of the project it not on time cause of climate condition that impact to process of bees growing.

Capacity - Building Component

Members of project get training for raising chickens and ducks with bees at Houyxon Houysoua center. Bee raising course project team missing time to organize.

Significant Participation of Indigenous Peoples

People develop their idea raising local bee, even they have not really lesson but they interested and attempt to lean by themselves. They try research reason of local bee moving to the forest on rainy season, while has rain they feed bees by sugar. Next project will pilot take Europe bees living with local bees to protect local bees move to the forest in rainy season. In the future project team will research and collect mother bees to grow amount of bees in the demonstrate area the project rent area for 10 ha expansion place for bees raising in the rainy season at Namjeng ,PhonHong and Houysied Pakson, Borikhamxay

Notable Community Participation

The project has criteria selecting members to implement, they are interested conduct activity but project teams just start activity and limited the number of members. Local authority encourage project by facility authorize necessary to support project.

Promoting Public Awareness of Global Environment

This project will be share through the marketing of honey, meeting of the project 10 ha of the protective area will be demonstration farm of bees.

Emphasis on Sustainable Livelihoods

Type of local Bees raising project can get income for family this activity can be permanent job. It also reservation environment and saving biodiversity balance. Members have plant sunflower and other to product sweet flower for bee?s food. In the demonstration area project team plant longan trees, papaya trees, Xiengkhouang fire fruit and etc. that can support their economic and food security. Set up water source in the protective area for fish living, effective to wild life. This project has regulation of demonstration and reservation area forbid for hunting birds.

Gender Focus

Women apply for member and educated for bees raising, they want getting this activity to get income for family. this project women participate less than men.

Project Results

Total demonstration area is 10 ha was authorize by Land & House district office.
the project successful house for contain bees and move all bees to permanence house
have plan provide baby trees for people to plant on space area but climate very dry in this village but they are improved by planting kind of trees upgrading land quality.
In the rainy season wasps has killed bees.
Time of the project might be extent some activities is not success but project will request fund from GEF to continue. The project is not properly success cause of climate condition local bee suitable growing in warm area, some of local authority did not encourage and some of members break rule of the project. Project change place because of climate condition make project unsuccessful as planning
