Satapuala Marine Conservation Area Program
Satapuala Marine Conservation Area Program
The purpose of the project is to utilize sustainable environmental and conservation practices for the long term protection and sustainable use of the biodiversity resources available to Satapuala. To rehabilitate the marine environment within the traditional fishing grounds of Satapuala that have experienced environmental problems such as coastal erosion and algae blooms along the near shore part of the beachfront and degradation of the marine ecosystems and biodiversity . To address this, the project proposes to take actions to address the underlying causes of the marine environment degradation. The underlying causes include the overharvesting of marine resources, use of illegal fishing practices and harvesting of undersized fish as marine-based problems. Land-based causes include pollution from waste disposal practices, clearing of watershed areas, and sand mining
