Friends of the Earth-CEPA: “Towards an Intelligent Utilization of Energy in Polana in order to strengthen energy self-sufficiency and energy security of the marginalized rural region of Polana”
Project is implemented in 4 mikroregions around Po?ana ? MR Rentár, MR ?ierny Hron, MR Podpo?anie and MR Severné Podpo?anie. All microregions belong to category of marginalised rural regions despite their great potential for local development. The project aim is to show to municipalities on the possibilities in the energy sector for local development. It can be notably in following areas:
1) Creation of local capacities for sustainable energy production. This will be done by specialised seminars for target municipalities.
2) Energy certification of public buildings (15 full certificates and 35 energy assessments) which will confirm potential for energy savings.
3) Elaboration and presentation of energy strategies for all 4 microregions in which we will identify potential for usage of RES and potential for financial savings generated through implementation of measures
4) Project promotion at various events.

Project Characteristics and Results
Notable Community Participation
45 municipalities from 4 microregions actively participate on the project activities. The most important factor in the project is training of local activists interested in energy issues on energy management and energy projects development. Local activists will then become the focal persons within the municipalities on energy efficiency and RES issues, serving both for municipality as well as local habitants.
Emphasis on Sustainable Livelihoods
Project will provide regular information to local activists on RES and its usage for local development. By this as well as regular cooperation on energy issues, the project focuses to ensure longterm sustainable development of 4 microregions by usage of RES or implementation of EE measures.
