Sustainable management and efficient use of pastures and haying territories of Koilyk rural area
After Soviet Union collapse livestock is mostly privately owned (about 70%). In Koilyk village it is too expensive for private owners of small number of livestock to graze their folks on distant pastures. Thus livestock is grazing over and over on the same lands that leads to land degradation, pasture biodiversity depletion and livestock exhaustion. Underfeed cow gives less milk; weeds invading pastures produce barbs, which makes sheep wool unsuitable for further use. People receive less income and to increase it they expand number of livestock heads, without solving the root problems. Koilyk rural district is bordering future Specially Protected Aria ? Zhetysu Alatau, where wild apples and peaches grow. But it is not SPA yet and grazing livestock berry risks of agro biodiversity depletion in that area.
