Construction of a Water Retention Dam
Among other problems, water scarcity and deficiencies in water management, are the major problems, local farmers face in Matinho, Boca Larga community. Construction of a small dam will entail mobilizing roughly 3.000 m3 of water upon arrival of the first rains between July and September. Best management practices will be implemented, such as creation of a water management committee which will increase transparency in water distribution and uses in Boca Larga. The project will benefit farmers, small scale herders and residents of Matinho.

Emphasis on Sustainable Livelihoods
It is estimated that the dam capacity is approximately 3.000 m3. This water will benefit at least 54 families and irrigate between 55 and 60 ha of land. This means that families will spend less resources on water than before the project was implemented.
Notable Community Participation
Matinho - Boca Larga community participated in construction of the dam and construction materials arrangements. 6 community members were inducted as permanent members on the Water Management Committee.
