New Developments and unexpected difficulties during the implementation of the project:
The crisis situation in Syria created a very complicated environment for the project staff to work under and made it sometimes impossible for the project to resume activities. The security situation became highly tensed in Qara since early 2012. Serious security incidents took place in the project area, including monastery facilities targeted by land missiles that caused damage to the building. This situation also made it impossible for the project staff to continue working in Qara and had to be relocated to safer areas.
Actions taken to solve them:
The project staff took all possible measures for overcoming challenges imposed by the war situation, including purchasing high-power battery to overcome electricity cuts, performing tasks from distance, purchasing needed machinery to replace handworkers, and finally evacuating the project location.
