One of the mandated missions of GEF and SGP is that promoting innovative approaches, and lifting barriers to technology transfer in emerging markets. One of the main hurdles for a greater market penetration and availability of the solar products in the everyday life in Albania is the absence of these items in the market. The lack of offer by the market combined with a reduced request by the buyers due to lack of information regarding existence of such products delays significantly the spreading of these new technologies.

The project will secure the illumination of 2 accident black spots using solar photovoltaic technology. The use of this technology is suitable for these two sites due to the lack of grid connections to these sites. Sites in which the project will be implemented are:
Roundabout of the crossing of the ringroad between ?Unazes se Re? and ?Rrugen e Durresit? in Tirana
Passage of ?Kthesa e shoferit? in the Lushnje ? Fier higway
