Project Characteristics and Results

Capacity - Building Component

Capacity Building of the project beneficiaries was reached through the trainings of school pupils to improve the understanding of ecological values of flora and fauna as well as to broad their vision about the endangered species of animals and plants.

Promoting Public Awareness of Global Environment

Creating of school nursery, micro-reserve and ecological corner in the school in Iyrek village as well as conducting 8 seminars and round tables, making videos on project activities and issuing booklets will essentially increase an awareness of environment protection.

Policy Influence

From the local administration there was a big interest in the replication of this model to the schools of other villages of Kyrgyzstan. as the problem of endangered speciaes exists in the every region of country.

Gender Focus

Gender equaty was taken into account during the whole project period: planning, development and reailzation of project the participation of women and men was equal.

Replication of project activities

It is propesed to replicate the project to the schools of other villages. The representatives of other villages are interested in th ereplication.

Notable Community Participation

Jamaat Kyzyl-Abad memders, Kyzyl-Abad school staff initiated to create an ecologic corner in order to develop a capacity of local population and increase an awareness on rare species of plants and animals.

Policy Impact

The project have a right policy in terms of educating pupils in the school age to value the environment, and care of the endangered speciaes which is very important, especially in the remote areas where young people have a limited access to internet and lack of educational tools: books, CDs etc.,

Emphasis on Sustainable Livelihoods

The sustainable livelihood laid in the core of the projet idea that included a holistic approcach consisting of: capacity building of shcool pupils by condicting trainings, creating an eco-corner with improved infrostructure and awareness raising through the informational materials.

Project sustainability

The sustainablity of the project is ensured through trainings on the role of local community inthe protection of endangered speciaes.Additionally, the project improved infrostructure of the ecological corner, created an eco- zone and small nursery for the school pupils. who will further broaden their vision in the ecological field.

Project Results

1. Establishing local project management committeeJamaat "Kyzyl-Abad". Among members of this committee there are representative of local authority, Osh State University, Osh oblast administration and regional branch of environment and forestry division.
2. Necessary equipment was bought: computer, LCD projector, TV, TV antenna etc.
3. Informational and educational activities:
3.1. Workshop "Role of Local Population and School Students in Protecting Rare Species of Plant and Animals in Kyzyl-Abad" was organized and conducted. Participants: villagers and representatives of local authority, Osh State University.
3.2. Booklets with information on Project have been issued.
3.3. The article on Project activities was published in local newspaper "Osh Jarygy" on October 30, 2010.
