This project aims to improve the viability of a fledgling seamoss industry on Union Island. St. Vincent and the Grenadines. This will be done through research and experimentation, capacity development, improved monitoring of human impacts on the marine environment, and improving community awareness of the connection between environmental pollution and livelihoods. The project outcome is that a sustainable seamoss industry is created within two years.

Capacity - Building Component
A primary objective of this project proposal is to develop the capacity of the AMCS to manage a viable industry. Members will learn financial management, business and environmental monitoring skills. Other skills will include leadership and facilitation, project planning and management, group dynamics, conflict resolution, communications, and monitoring and evaluation.
Emphasis on Sustainable Livelihoods
Another primary objective of this project is to improve the quality and shelf-life of the seamoss as a means of increasing income over time.
