Implementing NGO/CBO:
Northern Organic Farming Standard Organization (NOSA): Founded in 1995 as a CBO, through multi-sector cooperation, NOSA is mandated to promote organic farming, in eight provinces in the northern region of Thailand, which contribute to conservation and protection of natural resources and the environment.

Location of project:
Cultivated area, mostly paddy and other horticulture as well as corn, in four districts in three provinces, i.e. Wieng Par Pao District of Chiangrai, Mae Tha District of Lampang, and Mae Taeng, Phrao and Doisaket of Chiangmai.

Target Population:
330 families with 660 members who are northern Thai the majority of which depends upon agriculture for livelihoods. 125 families are direct participants/beneficiaries. The per capita income is THB: 70,000.

Main Activities:
1. Capacity building through meetings, community surveys, to confirm and prepare activities
2. Demonstrating and putting into practice various types of renewable energy
3. Conducting participatory evaluation
4. Disseminating project results to wider audiences

Main Anticipated Result:
1. Increased technical capacity and awareness of targeted population witnessed by ability to build and use renewable energy in daily living and with 25 model families
2. Estimated reduction/avoidance of conventional energy use, thus CO2 emission , as follows:
- 165 kg /month of cooking gas as a result of 11 biogas pits
- 1,800 kw-hr for 100 days of grid electricity as a result of heated water from 11 biogas pits
-304 kw-hr / month as a result of 25 manual water pumping units
3. Fabricated 250 high efficiency stoves and 25 biomass stoves to burn corn cob briquette resulting in a saving of fire-woods by 1,600 kg/month
4. About 240-ha chemical-applied cultivated land being turned into organic farming area
5. Evinced adoption of project ideas by wider public
