Community Water Work by Solar Energy / Phuthai Ua Arthorn Fund
Implementing NGO/CBO:
Ua Arthorn Phuthai Fund (UAPF): Founded in April 18, 2006, with the aims to promote farmers to appropriately manage agricultural waste, encourage community saving and promote women?s role in supplementary income generation. UAPF gets annual financial support from local administrative organization (Wangsai Tambol Municipality).

Location of project:
Baan (village) Phuthai Phatthana in Tambol Wangchai , Parkchong District, Nakhronratchasima Province, which is an agricultural communities in the vicinity of Khao Yai National Park. Water work for community is consuming grid electricity at the rate THB: 4,000-5,000 / month.

Target Population:
78 families with 252 members of Phuthai cultural group the majority of which practice agriculture for living. The main crops include tapioca, corn, sugar cane and paddy. Husbandry, i.e. cow raising is also practiced. The per capita income is THB: 9,843.

Main Activities:
1. Capacity building through participatory analysis of community data and study tours
2. Installing a solar water pumping facility and supplying water to targeted family
3. Conducting participatory evaluation
4. Disseminating project results to wider audiences

Main Anticipated Result:
1. Increased capacity and awareness of targeted population witnessed by ability to formulate plan to submit to local administrative organization
2. A more systematical management for community water work to ensure sustainability
3. Substantial reduction of grid electricity consumption for community water work from THB: 4,500/month to THB: 900/month thus approximately 168.75 kg of CO2/month avoided
4. Emergence of community saving fund to be used in carrying out Self-Sufficiency Economy project within the village
5. The project being a learning centre for public for replication
