Implementing NGO/CBO:
Ngao Community Forest Model Development Association (FORMDA): Registered as an association on October 25, 2002 with objective to promote participation from multi-sector in forest management to ensure socio-economic and environmental viability.

Location of project:
Watershed area of Ngao River in Lampang Province?s Ngao District. Mostly forest and flatland in the valley , about 133,760 ha, the watershed can be classified as protection and limited production forests which contains natural forest land cover and altered land cover such as agriculture or residence. Current less well planned land use coupled with promotion of quick cash crops are imposing threats to the watershed which is an integrated ecosystems of the South China Sea / Gulf of Thailand.

Target Population:
2,019 families with 3,569 members from 10 villages in Ngao District are direct participants/beneficiaries of the project. Mainly of six cultural groups (Northern Thai, Mien, Karen, Akha, Hmong and Khamu), growing paddies, cash crops and other horticulture are the first source for living, with providing general services considered the second. The per capita income is THB: 41,352.50.

Main Activities:
1. Launching capacity building by meetings, training and study tours
2.Demonstrating conservation approaches by re-vegetation, forest surveillance, fire-break zone , retaining soil humidity and resources inventorying
3. Conducting participatory evaluation
4. Disseminating project results to wider public

Main Anticipated Result:
1. Increased capacity and awareness of 200 persons and 60 members of youth groups witnessed by active participation and sharing management responsibility in project activities
2. Emergence of at least 10 networks for forest protection
3. Fire-break zone of at least 100 ?km long being established thus substantial reduction of forest fire
4. At least 200 units of humidity retention weirs being completed and functioning benefiting participating families
5. At least 20,000 native seedlings being reforested and thriving in project location
6. Emergence of two occupation groups of at least 30 members making use of resources from the forests in project location in a sustainable manner ,i.e. practicing self sufficiency economy
