ANALYSES AND PRESERVATION OF ENDEMIC JAMAICAN PLANTS IN THE COCKPIT REGION
Of the 101 Cockpit country endemic plants only a small number of these plants have been properly screened, and those which indicate possible importance have not been preserved or kept accessible in a manner that facilitates further scientific research. The project sees to establish an accessible repository of endemic Jamaican plants extracts that have been analysed and screened by various means with emphasis on those which may show promise for either their medicinal value or possible agricultural or value added potential. The project will also seek to provide exposure and awareness to CAPE level students on how drugs are discovered from natural sources and conservation issues through hands-on workshop/training laboratory experience. The project will be implemented under Biodiversity ? Op. Programme 1, 3, 4 and 13.
