The aim of the project was to produce documents for the local protection of the environment, enhance the awareness and strengthen the knowledge of local municipalities and regions in Slovakia about the climate change and mitigating its negative impacts. A total of 166 government workers, academic and third sector parties attended 4 educational seminars and one national conference. Success of the project is the fact that after the final conference other two municipalities (Kremnica and Tahanovce) expressed the interest to implement mitigation and adaptation measures.
Municipalities received manuals called "Climate Change and Local Development - a Challenge for the Municipalities", which describe in detail the impacts of climate change on a global level and particularly in Slovakia, processes and measures how to mitigate them, legislative and strategic framework as well as good examples from practice (200 copies in electronic form, 50 copies in print).
The city of Spisska Nova Ves adopted three documents: "Climate Change Policy", "Action Plan" and "Concept of Development of Renewable Sources of Energy and Energy Savings", which merged into a single comprehensive document "Strategy of Spisska Nova Ves in Mitigation and Adaptation to the Impacts of Climate Change" whose implementation and compliance is checked regularly. The city has also created a climate team of Spisska Nova Ves consisting of 11 members who will cooperate in order to secure mitigation and adaptation measures in SNV in the future.
