Daphne – Institute of Applied Ecology- “Restoration of wetlands in the cadaster of Spišská Belá”
The main goal of the project is to recover the peat development process in two peat-bogs, Trstinné lúky and Krivý kút. It will be implemented through activities focused on the research of peat-bogs. Based on the research results, adequate plans of peat-bogs recovery will be prepared. Additional activities will focus on raising the awareness about the importance of peat-bogs in mitigating the impacts of the ongoing climatic changes. These activities will include mainly building a relaxing and educational area in the peat-bog Krivý kút and starting an interactive educational program about peat-bogs for local schools.

Project Characteristics and Results
Notable Community Participation
Project partner is municipality Spi?ská Belá which is our long-term partner for peatlands protection. We plan to involve also local schools into the project activities and to develop interactive learning programs for school children at selected localities - Krivý kút and Trstinné lúky in Eastern Slovakia. The municipality will participate on restoration activities and will finance closing of chanels and cutting off the trees. Also local activists who are familiar with local cultural and natural heritage will be involved into the project activities of Spi?ská Belá.
There will be participating low-income families on project activities. This will be organised with local authority. By involving such groups into wetland restoration and building of recreational zones within the city, higher ownership for creating public places and nature values should be built.
Emphasis on Sustainable Livelihoods
The results of the project should be governed by municipality Spi?ská Belá, for which it is important to sustain possibilities for active recreation of local habitants as well as local natural values within the city.
