Management of Pastoral Mobility Around water points: Managing the threats and Exploiting the potentials,Runka Savannah LGA kastina State.
Its goal Is to strengthen capacity of nomadic community to formulate and implement community based natural resources management for environmental sustainability and reduction of poverty.
Areas around water points are characterized by high degree of land degradation due to concentrated and frequent trampling by herds that leads to compaction of the top soil into hard crust which cannot absorb water or support plant growth. Most of the desertification control measures are not applied around such areas even though they are flashpoints for the menace. On the other hand during dry season, at the time when it is needed most by livestock and for human consumption, water dries up.
Project activities include; fish farming, establishment of orchards, establishment of plantation for indigenous trees, documentation and dissemination of best practises. Groups involved are nomadic farmers and fishermen.
