The goal of this project is to increase community response to climate changes by raising awareness of community members on causes and effect of climate change.

Rice cultivation has become extinct because of the crop?s poor adaptability to climate change. Also, last year their main crop, yam which is normally harvested in April/May was completely destroyed by extreme heat and delayed onset of rain. Vulnerability effects include low farm produce, increased child mortality, excessive high temperature, loss of forest trees, disease proliferation, inaccessibility to farms and dwelling places. The community acknowledged that they don?t have any adaptation strategies to climate change vulnerability except minor erosion control strategies such as using sand bags to control erosion and have no knowledge of how to produce or use compost manure and energy saving wood stoves.

Specific activities include; Initial scoping to gather background information, Conduct town hall meetings and Participatory Rural appraisal of the climate and develop response and adaptation plans, conduct 5days training within the community on climate events and on response for mitigating impact for 50 pilot community members, procure adaptive crops and trees for the community, Provide inputs and extension services to the farmers. Project activities involve community women, youth and especially farmers.
