Kioutaloun 1 Development Project LDP
The project will seek to address baseline and climate change threats by;
? ensuring that current agricultural practices are adapted to cope with current and climate change risk ? through promoting sustainable agricultural methods and diversification
? build the community?s capacity to provide for itself through generating its own rice seed, fingerlings to restock the river, community fund to support livelihood initiatives and food insecurity and processing and marketing of community produce
? build the resilience of natural ecosystems through implementing sustainable management plans
? carry out a feasibility study for village irrigation schemes to ensure that they will not adversely impact on any ecosystem.
The project will be implemented directly by the community and will be implement at full scale rather than pilot scale from the outset. The project will commence with awareness raising of the importance of ecosystems to community livelihoods and the potential impact of climate change. It is also proposed to build networks with other projects addressing climate change adaption in the province thus disseminating positive outcomes from the project and learning from the successes of other projects. In addition, the project intends to include district staff in training courses attended by the community to ensure that knowledge of techniques and methodologies can be passed onto other communities in the district.
