Establishing the bioenergetic park of energy willow
Establishing the bioenergetic park of energy willow
Energy needs of mankind at present are fulfilled through comprehensive sources: natural gas, oil, coal, peat, prices for which are rising and reserves declining. Rising prices affect the economy of countries and the level of living.
In an increasing destructive anthropogenic impact on the environment, reducing natural resources, increased cost of production, and accumulation of human waste is a promising choice for bioenergetics.
Consumption of renewable energy sources (RES) in Ukraine is only 4% of total energy consumption. Ukraine is interested in using RES in combination with the decentralization of energy sources, using local energy. Biomass - the largest source of renewable energy, where RES as biomass electricity is the cheapest. At present rates and the inflow of biomass and energy in Ukraine do not meet either the existing resources, or energy needs. This project offers one way of solving this problem, namely the establishment of bioenergy plantations of timber, including energy willow. Energy willow is widely used as a fast effective renewable energy fuel. Unlike wood, energy willow can be completely restored after 3 years. The Project will cover all Rivne region, while the energy willow park will be planted near Shepetyn village.
This project will enable the use of energy resources willow for further processing it into biomass - highly efficient, environmentally clean fuel, and create favorable investment conditions for development.
The project will enable business development and entrepreneurship; investment will flow into the region. Promoting use of advanced energy saving technologies will expand awareness of environmental and economic effectiveness of such technologies to all segments of the population.
In addition, the project will be illustrative example of the possibilities of using alternative fuels.

This project meets the following criteria and GEF SGP:
? Provides for reduction of greenhouse gases in the process of obtaining energy;
? Has a positive effect on measuring the quality of the environment, as well as reduces the burden on natural resources, saves fossil energy, increase the rate of forest cover area
? Promotes sustainable environmental and economic development of the region, which is implemented by creating a favorable investment environment for business development and therefore job creation, increase in competitiveness among other regions of Ukraine in terms of production using relatively cheap and clean energy;
? is multifunctional, since practical purpose promotes greater awareness of different populations of environmental and economic benefits of using alternative energy sources.

Specific objectives, aim and effects
Biomass - a renewable energy source, whose formation process can be managed. Also, a clean fuel, as the result of burning wood is not broken heat balance of the planet, because the specific costs of greenhouse gas emissions compared to burning coal in 20-50 times smaller.
In terms of our need to expand the use of tree biomass in energy, should not be by the use of natural forest reserves, namely through the establishment and expansion of bioenergy plantations of timber (including Rivne region especially in its southern regions).
Process creation and operation of such bioenergy plantations, along with environmental and economic effects positively affect the social sector by creating jobs, adds revenues to local budgets, reduces costs of energy imports, conserves fossil energy resources, reduces of harmful emissions, reduces harmful effects of energy environment, increases forest cover area.
The purpose of this project is to disseminate knowledge and skills on the use of alternative energy sources and energy efficiency technologies as one of the components of sustainable economic and environmental development in the region.
During this project will be carried out organizational work on informing the population, increase awareness about alternative energy sources, the environmental and economic benefits of their use for heating.

Detailed description of activity

Willow wood creates biomass for subsequent combustion. Wood biomass has a high calorific value and produces small emissions of harmful substances into the environment.
Energy willow on its their energy options is not inferior to regular wood.
Currently, energy willow plantations are ecologically, energetically and economically beneficial. Energy willow has rapid growth, high calorific value, convenient to soil and environmental conditions.
Creating energy willow park will allow its use as a more energy efficient and more ecologically friendly fuel that when burned, creates much less pollution in the environment.

This project foresees the following work:
- Preparing the soil for planting (plowed, fertilizer-treated with pesticides, herbicides)
- Planting seedlings of energy willow
- The result of the project will create a park cleaner, economically viable fuel.
- Execution of a series of seminars on the benefits of using alternative fuels, including biomass.
- Publication of several articles on environmental and economic benefits of such fuel in the media.

Biomass - a clean fuel, as a result of wood burning is not broken heat balance of the planet, because unit costs of greenhouse gas emissions compared to burning coal in 20-50 times smaller.
Global environmental impact of the project is also reducing the burden on the resources of fossil energy sources, deposits are gradually running out.
The development of alternative energy, including waste wood, partially relieves the region of existential dependence on mineral resources that are purchased and released to direct resources to the development of regional economy.
The creation of new jobs (drivers, masters that serve technique)
The project involves community to participate in the Project cycle, creates additional working places, organizes lectures, seminars, thematic tours, which will promote alternative energy sources and motivate local governments to encourage and support entrepreneurs who produce products with advanced technology and alternative energy sources.
