This project proposes to set up D Smart Farm as a Biodiversity Centre where visitors (both local and from abroad) can
The objectives of the project:
1. Mini Zoo and Model Farm - For 200 Dominicans and Tourists a year to learn about indigenous species, organic farming and alternative energy: Time frame-within a year.
2. Biodiversity Campsite -For 1-4 groups of 12 community groups/tourists per month to camp in the forest becoming aware of threats to indigenous species and actions that they can take to mitigate threats of extinction: Time frame- within a year.
3. Forest Classroom -For 120 individuals to attend workshops where they are influenced and motivated to commit to healthy and an environmentally responsible lifestyle: Time frame- One workshop per quarter.
4. Permaculture Training ? To train the coordinator in Permaculture on a short course outside of Dominica.
5. Good governance ? For the project to be run in an accountable way with attention to monitoring and evaluation requirements.
To set up our Farm as a Biodiversity Centre where tourists and school children can come to gain an understanding of the need to treasure our environment and preserve the species of animals and Birds which live there.
To develop the existing SLIC Hydro site into a field trip center for school children to visit as part of their studies
To educate people with a hands on approach regarding composting and recycling, and encourage observation and appreciation of the environment

Replication of project activities
As a result, various aspects of the project are being implemented in other significant undertakings on the island. These include the fermenting of organic teas, composting sheds and agro-tourism.
Planning non gef grant
Exposure to Eco Balance and D-Smart Farm has motivated several individuals to adopt similar approaches and practices for the development of sustainable livelihoods in the areas of agriculture and eco-tourism. In addition, a closely knit network has emerged among GEF SGP grantees which lead to exposure and the sharing of ideas and best practices among grantees
