Involvement of citizens and local government to the energy saving process
Local NGO ?Association of invalids in Stanichno-Lugansk? implements the demonstration project on replacing for energy efficient bulbs in selected schools and hospitals of Lugansk, development of the strategy and action plan for energy efficient measures in Lugansk, improving energy efficiency in public buildings, local Program of energy-saving, as well as dissemination of project results, organizing public hearings and round tables in the town, attracting more and more community members to participatory demonstration projects in schools and hospitals.
General aim of the project is reducing green house gas emission and spreading community awareness on climate change and build capacities on adaptation and energy saving measures.
Goals will be achieved by following these steps:
Step 1 Assessment of energy saving best practices in the world and Ukraine, development of the energy saving program of Lugansk region based on the world wide experience in similar industrial regions;
Step 2 Implementation of the demonstration project on energy saving by replacing conventional light bulbs on power efficient in hospitals and schools;
Step 3 Monitoring of energy consumption level and analyzing of changes that have already happened. Energy audit.
Step 4 Development of demonstration project business ?plan;
Step 5 Spread community awareness about climate change, their possible involvement and ?green growth? approach;
Step 6 Brought to the public results of project implementation and GEF SGP work in other regions of Ukraine, networking.
It is foreseen that unemployed people of the region as well as vulnerable group of people will be employed throughout the project implementation.
Also project implementation will lead to exploitation reducing of traditional energy sources, due to this project performance will obtain such economical effect as reducing the cost of buying these supplies, and will reduce energy dependence of Ukraine.
The Project builds public ? private partnership with big well-known businesses in the area, that contribute to project cofinancing. It will also create possibilities for vulnarable group of people.
