Conservation and restoration of obsolete woodlands of Kuruksay canyon in Kashkadarya
The project aims at tackling main reasons for clear-cutting of woodlands - cutting trees for fuel-wood. The project will be demonstrating different type of energy efficient stoves for heating and cooing purposes, solar cookers. The project will also be dealing with organizing plantation of tree species suitable for wood fuel to alternate cutting of trees on the slopes nearby village of Kuruksay. The remaining old trees (more than 1500 years old) will be taken under protection. The project will organize trails and tours and will be attracting tour operators to channel tourist to this area. This will make another source of income for local population. The project will also be engaged in helping local people to plan pistachio trees that are the most profitable in the existing conditions.
