The GEF SGP is doing big work in distributing practice of pistachio planting across all Uzbekistan. This is done for the sake of several reasons: plantations are excellent way of carbon sequestration; pistachio does not require any water which is extremely important for Uzbekistan with the growing deficit of available water resources as a a means of adaptation; pistachio is also an excellent mechanism to prevent land degradation in the foothills and mountainous areas.
The work is underway, but in order to make people plant trees we need supply them with all necessary conditions. One of the most important parts is inoculative material that has to be produced. People are starting to adapt practice of the pistachio planting and the demand for inoculative material is growing too whereas there is no supply source.
This project is establishing a special plantation of sort pistachios which will be exclusively grown for the sake of the qualitative inoculative material.
