Expansion and consolidation of community forests in the Lower River Region.
The objective of the project was to conserve biodiversity through the introduction and consolidation of community forest management in 20 communities in Jarra and Kiang Districts of the Lower River Region of The Gambia. The project l targeted communities in the selected villages specifically those which reside within potential community forest areas. Direct project beneficiaries were located within the districts of Jarra and Kiang and included 2, 500 farmers (both male and female).The project l assisted these communities in all aspects of acquiring community forest status for their forest areas and provided training and support for the realization of that goal.

Notable Community Participation
Being a people-centred project, the project worked directly with the selected communities in the 2 districts of Jarra and Kiang.
Capacity - Building Component
For the project to attain its goal of expanding and consolidating community forestry in the project areas, capacity building was central to project activities. The emphasis was placed on knowledge and skills transfer to community ownership of forest resources.
