Provisional of Alternative, Environmentally Sustainable and efficient solutions to the power and water challenges at CCBRT Hospital for Devemonstration
Context:
Comprehensive Community Based Rehabilitation in Tanzania (CCBRT) is a locally registered Non-Governmental Organization (NGO). It was established in 1994. It is the largest indigenous provider of disability and rehabilitation services in the country. The NGO runs a well established hospital in Dar es Salaam where every year, about 120,000 adults and children with disabilities and their caregivers achieve a better quality of life through CCBRT services.
After 16 years of distinguished services, CCBRT is now seeking to strengthen its commitment to sustainability by focusing on alternative environmentally friendly and reliable sources of electricity, water heating system and water supply at its disability hospital at Msasani, Dar es Salaam. In addition, CCBRT wants to promote rainwater harvesting as an alternative source of water to mitigate DAWASCo?s erratic water supply system. Furthermore, CCBRT wish to distribute solar lanterns to disadvantage children who have been affected by prolonged exposure to indoor pollution fuelled by long use of kerosene lamps.
Project Objective:
The prime goal of this project is to provide alternative, environmentally sustainable and efficient solutions to the power and water challenges at CCBRT. In addition, to extend sustainability to the families and communities served by CCBRT.
Specific objectives are as follows:-
? To ensure a consistent, environmentally friendly solar power supply for CCBRT in order to facilitate the smooth running of day to day functions and minimize damage to vital equipment and water pumps.
? To ensure a constant supply of high quality water by harvesting rainwater as fall-back facility in case of low supply.
? To reduce polluting and wasteful practices and improve sustainability on every level by maximizing the use of natural resources and demonstrating to other stakeholders for wider adoption.
? To provide alternative light solutions to families through the distribution of solar lamps to disadvantaged children who are treated at CCBRT.
