Promote effective land-use and income-generating for rural households of Kumsangir district through establishment of 25 fruit-tree nurseries
The main goal of the project is to promote conservation of biodiversity and increase reforestation through establishment of 25 community-based nurseries of fruit trees in Kumsangir district. In addition, the project will provide local farmers and community residents with information and education on innovative technology and share the best practices on community nursery development, best environmentally friendly techniques to grow tree plants in a economic and fast way.Project activities:1.Together with working group (environment protection and forestry committee, local authorities, NGO-grantee, local community leaders, Farmers Association, etc.) indentify and select local farmers (Dekhkan) based on the selection criteria set up in advance;2.Establishment of 25 small-scale nurseries at the household levels; 3.Plantation and production of 15,000 seedlings of pomegranate, 15,000 fig-tree, 10,000 nut-trees, and 10,000 almond-trees on the base of community nurseries;4.In close cooperation with committee of environment protection and forest, local administration and jamoat, agriculture department, association of local farmers and NGOs negotiate, identify and set up market value chain system to realize the produced 50,000 seedlings and young trees to local farmers. If necessary, sign a MOA between project beneficiaries and stakeholders on provision of technical and administrative support in the process of realization of produced forest and non-timber products in the local and regional markets. 5.To provide education and training courses and awareness raising campaigns among project beneficiaries including community residents and local famers. Totally, 25 persons (head of farm, active members, etc.) will be provided with TOT who then will inculcate and distribute the gained knowledge and skills on container tree planting techniques and methodology to other farmers within and outside the project areas. 6.Elaborate and distribute information material on container tree plantation techniques, sustainable land use and management and care;7.Conduct a round table presentation with project beneficiaries, stakeholders, local authorities, NGOs, UNDP and SGP.
