GREEN ENERGY FROM THE NATURE

The purpose of the project is the promotion of energy efficiency ? efficient building insulation, passive houses - and use of renewable energy sources ? sustainable use of forest and agricultural biomass. A set of measures will be developed to secure a balance between the biomass that can be used for energy production and the biomass reintroduced in the natural cycle through composting. A social workshop will be created to prepare the biomass for briquetting process, supported by a mobile equipment. For the final briquetting phase a partnership with a private company will be established, stipulating special advantages for the community.

Project Characteristics and Results

Significant Participation of Indigenous Peoples

500 community members use the GHG emission reducing technologies, 1500 out of which 800 women participate in the information activities.

Planning non gef grant

An application is under preparation for a project aimed to up scale the present project in partnership with |Forest Extension Institute from Norway, application to be submitted under EEA grants programme.

Replication of project activities

Before the project end, the grantee established a partnership with a local authority from a neighbor commune and with local owners of forests for replicating some of the present SGP project.

Gender Focus

In the project the role of every participant is well defined. Through the implementation of the educational and field activities mainly women will participate.

Notable Community Participation

The communities from Albesti, Hetiur and Remetea communes communes, Sovata twon, two local public administrations, four NGOs and one private companies are co-financing the project.

Promoting Public Awareness of Global Environment

The information activities contribute to the public awareness on energy efficiency and the use of renewable energy sources.

Capacity - Building Component

The project activities (information materials, training sessions, practical activities) contribute to the capacity building of the local population related to energy efficiency (efficient building insulation, passive houses), and use of renewable energy sources (sustainable use of forest and agricultural biomass).

Emphasis on Sustainable Livelihoods

The project will contribute to the sustainable livelihood for the population by informing and demonstrating the advantages of efficient building insulation, passive houses, sustainable use of forest and agricultural biomass. The briquettes produced in the social workshop will be used for heating public building of community interest (school, kindergarten) and will be sold at low price for locals.

Project sustainability

The social workshop established within the project will continue to process the forest and agriculture biomass. The local NGO and the new established CO will continue to support the local associations of forests' owners in applying sustainable forest management on their lands.
