Brown of Maramures ? biodiversity conservation, tradition and assurance of well-being
The project ?Brown of Maramures - biodiversity conservation, tradition and assurance of well-being? aims at conservation of biodiversity in the hilly and sub-mountainous areas of northern part of Maramures County, with the support and in the benefit of local communities. Specific activities will be carried out (i) to support the conservation of the local cattle genus ?Brown of Maramure??, (ii) to maintain and improve the flow of services provided by the agricultural and forests ecosystems, (iii) to promote the development of alternative solution for income increase.

Significant Participation of Indigenous Peoples
75 households participate at trainings on the cattle breeding, 400 households apply traditional methods of conservation of the local cattle genus, 30 locals participate on an experience exchange trip, 40 youngsters participate on mountain hay meadows conservation trainings, 75 women participate at trainings on milk processing, 1000 persons participate at information activities.
Gender Focus
At the reference area of the project, the main activities of the locals is animal breeding and wood processing. The role of women is exclusively household maintenance. The project proposes to sustain women to be able to capitalize milk based products. The local women hold the traditional recipes of milk processing, which makes the area specific of their cheese products, which can become local brands.
