Innovative use of the natural capital in the Natura 2000 site Defileul Crisului Repede - Padurea Craiului

The purpose of the project is promoting biodiversity conservation and enhancement of the natural capital of the ROSCI0062 and Natura 2000 site-Defileul Crisului Repede ? Padurea Craiului (Rosia area) by the sustainable use of existing natural resources. Model activities will be developed to re-habilitate unproductive lands in the proximity of Francu mine; to arrange the mine for speleological-tourism and also for informing and increasing the capacity of local community.

Policy Influence

1 local policy (the Sustainable Development Strategy of Rosia commune) was influences

Significant Participation of Indigenous Peoples

10 locals are involved in training activities, 190 volunteers volved in mine rehabilitation, 1500 inhabitants of Rosia commune will be involved in information/promotion activities.

Notable Community Participation

The communities of Rosia, the local public administration of the commune and two NGOs are co-financing the project.

Promoting Public Awareness of Global Environment

The information activities contribute to the public awareness on biodiversity conservation and sustainable use of existing natural resources.

Capacity - Building Component

The project activities (information materials, training sessions, practical activities) contribute to the capacity building of the local population related to biodiversity conservation, sustainable use of existing natural resources, mine rehabilitation for speleological-tourism.

Gender Focus

The project activities proposes to implicate at least 69 women out of 200 persons directly involved in project activities.

Replication of project activities

The project activities regarding the arrangement of Farcu cave for speleological tourism were replicated at Meziad cave with financing from EU Structural Funds..

Emphasis on Sustainable Livelihoods

The project will contribute to the sustainable livelihood for the population by informing and demonstrating the advantages of biodiversity conservation, sustainable use of existing natural resources. Through the mine rehabilitation for speleological-tourism and training the locals to be tourist guides the local communities income would improve.

Project sustainability

The tourism activities will be continued and diversified in Farcu cave under the coordination of CAPDD Bihor and with community support. The City hall from Rosia commune will rehabilitate the access road to the cave, facilitating thus the tourist access.
