Project Characteristics and Results

Significant Participation of Indigenous Peoples

200 community members participate in practical activities of reducing negative impact on land management, 2000 persons participate in the information activities.

Gender Focus

Ecosilvex association will assure the principle of equal chances in case of contracting necessary activities for the implementation of the project.

Policy Influence

One local policy (Decision of the Local Council) on the restoration of degraded lands was influenced.

Project sustainability

The Administration of PNVNT committed to maintain the visiting infrastructure and the photovoltaic panel, as part of their current activity. The 5 NGOs, the schools involved in programme, with the support of the local Public Administration will continue promoting non-motorized transport, maintaining the new-established orchards.

Notable Community Participation

The communities from Vanatori, the local public administration and 5 NGO's are co-financing the project.

Linkages gef projects

The current project is developed within the Natural Park Vanatori Neamt, park established within a GEF project. All activities were developed in close connection with the Administration of PNVNT, being in line with GEF objectives for this area.

Planning non gef grant

The grant beneficiary, together with one project partner intends to submit an application for up-scaling the activities of the current project, under the Sustainable Development component of eea grant programme for Romania. Planning grant is currently under evaluation.

Promoting Public Awareness of Global Environment

The information activities contribute to the public awareness on climate change issues, reduction of GHG emissions and biodiversity conservation.

Capacity - Building Component

The project activities (information materials, training sessions, practical activities) contribute to the capacity building of the local population related to biodiversity conservation and reduction of a greenhouse gas emissions.

Replication of project activities

The project activities can be replicated in almost all Natural Park in Romania

Emphasis on Sustainable Livelihoods

The project will contribute to the sustainability of livelihoods for the population by informing and demonstrating the advantages of biodiversity conservation, reduction of greenhouse gas emissions and preservation of traditional knowledge.

Project Results

- 106.6 ha of significant ecosystems with improved conservation status
- 20 important species with improved conservation status
- 343 ha of land sustainably managed
- 260 persons trained (out of which 160 young ones) in 12 training sessions
- 1 visiting infrastructure built
- 1 technology of using renewable energy sources (photovoltaic panel) promoted and demonstrated
- non-motorized transport (bicycle) promoted
- alternative income generating activities: agro-tourism and local products based on natural resources promoted
- developed capacity al local level (NGOs and local authorities) on participatory monitoring and evaluation process.
- 2,000 persons informed.
