Project Characteristics and Results

Significant Participation of Indigenous Peoples

50 locals are involved in the development of land management plans, 500 volunteers/women are involved in the afforestation activities, 1200 students are involved in education acticities, 5000 persons participate in the information activities.

Development of a landscape policy and management measures formulated and implemented with community support.

Planning non gef grant

For the project continuity, through the project implementation the NGO have applied to the Partnership Foundation, and won a complementary project.

Notable Community Participation

The communities of Raucesti and Draganaesti communes and the local public administrations participate and co-finance the project.

Promoting Public Awareness of Global Environment

The information activities contribute to the public awareness on climate change issues and sustainable land management.

Project sustainability

The life cycle of the materials purchased within the project is 25-30 years. The security of the resting places will be provided by the City Hall, the maintenance will be provided by the schools of the communes, each school having the maintenance of one resting place in their custody.

Gender Focus

The politics of the Sofiaman Association includes a large participation of women from the local population. All project activities foresee the implication of women and the valuing of their expertise in the development of some activities designated to vulnerable groups. It is encouraged the participation of women especially in the information/awareness raising/education activities.

Capacity - Building Component

The project activities (development of sustainable land management plans, afforestation activities, development of resting places for tourists through volunteers, awareness raising on climate change issues, training on project monitoring and evaluation) contribute to the capacity building of the local population.

Replication of project activities

The project activities can be replicated on country level, as the project contributed to the transformation of degraded lands into recreational spaces and night lighting with renewable energy.

Emphasis on Sustainable Livelihoods

The project will contribute to the sustainability of livelihoods for the population by the realization of local land management plans and afforestation activities.

Project Results

- 8000 women, 4000 men, 3000 youngsters benefited/ participated within the project;
- 100 women, 60 men, 40 youngsters participated in training activities;
- 2 training sessions organized on land usage planning;
- 11 degraded land surfaces were identified in Raucesti and Draganesti communes, from which there were selected 7 land surfaces for recreational places management;
- 6000 ornamental shrubs purchased and planted on the selected 7 land surfaces;
- 1500 copies of project presentation materials printed and distributed;
- 8 meetings organized within local schools on the theme of climate change;
- 3 ecological activities organized;
- continuation of the Green Caravan activity, invented in a previous SGP project;
- the information activities were continued with the use of a climate change handbook, realized within an other SGP project by Asociatia Renaturopa;
