The purpose of the project is to reduce GHG emissions at a local level in Romania, through the responsible use of forest products. Capacity building and awareness campaign for regarding the GHG reduction through sustainable and responsible forests management will be developed for local communities and demonstration activities will be carried out.

Significant Participation of Indigenous Peoples

160 locals are involved in training activities, 200 volunteers are involved in planting activities and 500 persons participate in the information activities.

Replication of project activities

Education activities for both teachers and students will be replicated in other regions.

Project sustainability

The 16 ha of new plated forest will be sustainably managed by the local community The trained teachers will continue to teach new generation of students Educational kit developed within the project will be used in schools

Notable Community Participation

The communities from Topoloveni, Pitesti (Arges county), Sinaia (Prahova county), Moreni (Dambovita county), two NGOs and one local public administration participate and co-finance the project.

Promoting Public Awareness of Global Environment

The information activities contribute to the public awareness on climate change issues, sustainable forest and forest products management.

Capacity - Building Component

The project activities (information materials, training sessions, practical activities) contribute to the capacity building of the local population related to climate change and possibilities of reducing its effects through sustainable forest and forest products management.

Emphasis on Sustainable Livelihoods

The project will contribute to the sustainability of livelihoods for the population by informing and demonstrating the advantages of sustainable forest and forest products management and climate change effects mitigations through afforestation activities.

Gender Focus

The women of the participating communities of the project will take part in the seedling planting activities, on debates, and training activities.

Project Results

- 1 education kit on sustainable use and consumption of forests developed, multiplied in 500 copies, distributed and used in schools
- promotion and dissemination publications designed, printed and distributed (3000 leaflets, 50 posters, 5 panels and 80 photos)
- training course for teachers attended by 20 teachers
- public awareness seminar on forests certification and sustainable consumption organized for 20 Public Administrations and NGOs.
- two public debates organized with 62 participants
- 66 ha of new forest planted with 65000 trees
- large information and dissemination through media (20 articles, interviews, TV broadcasts)
