Promote sustainable land management (SLM) through establishment of bio-drainage plantation in 3 ha land, commercial forestland in 5 ha land, and community-based nursery in 0.5 ha land within local farms of Kabodiyan district.
The main goal of the project is to promote establishment of biological drainage, plantation of wind protection forest lines, and promote commercial plantations in the abandoned/ eroded lands which are no longer usable; another goal of the project is improve the land irrigation and increase land production by introducing bio-drainage, new agro-technology and sustainable land management tools.
Project activities:1.Decrease level of underground waters in 50 ha land through establishment of bio-drainage in the area of 3 ha land, and through plantation of 3,000 seedlings of buffalo berries; 2.Engagement of 5 local farmers including 2 women and 25 people from community residents in the establishment of bio-drainage plantations; 3.Increase production in 100 ha land through establishment of wind protection woodlines in the area of 2 ha land, by plantation of 5,000 tree-seedlings of white poplar, and by engaging some 10 local farmers including 4 women and 50 people out of the local community; 4.Establishment of nurseries with 15,000 trees capacity in the area of 0.5 ha land in order to provide local community with cheap and quality tree seedlings; to establish nurseries some 100 kg seeds of apricot, 100 kg seeds of pear, 40 kg seeds of almond, 5,000 seedlings of pomegranate, 5,000 seedlings of white poplar and 5,000 seedlings of buffalo berry are procured and planted; 5.Transformation of unused lands into production through establishment of commercial plantations (fruit orchards) in the area of 5 ha land, by involvement of 5 local farmers including 2 women and 50 local people out of the community residents in orchard development, by plantation of 1,000 seedlings of almond and 1,000 seedlings of plum. 6.Conduct a round table presentation with project beneficiaries, stakeholders, local authorities, NGOs, UNDP and SGP before and after project implementation.
