Environment protection through Conservation and promotion of Tharu indigenous knowledge of using Medicinal Plants support Project
The book titled Tharu Indigenous Knowledge of Medicinal Plant and its practices published with the support from previous grant of SGP has documented nearly 400 plant species along with the medicinal use. It has also opened up a need to conserve these plants and Tharu Indigenous medicinal practice. In this system, the Tharus practice 3 healing systems- first via Baidawa who predominately uses medicinal plants, second via Guruwa who practices both Shamanism and medicinal plant and third via sending message. But the traditional Guruwa and Baidawa system are disappearing fast as the Tharu medicinal plants are endangered and there is no system for knowledge transfer to new generation. Thus project aims to document Tharu Indigenous knowledge and healing system; conserved the medicinal plants required for Tharu medicine and institutionalize and systematise the Tharu Baidawa and Guruwa Healing system
